FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQ page! At State Fire Prevention, we’re committed to helping business owners understand the importance of kitchen fire safety and stay compliant with local fire codes. Below are some of the most common questions we receive.

How often should I have my kitchen hood system cleaned?

He National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 96) recommends:

  • Monthly cleaning for high-volume kitchens (e.g., 24/7 diners, wok cooking)
  • Quarterly for moderate-volume operations (e.g., sit-down restaurants)
  • Semi-annually or annually for low-volume or seasonal kitchens

We’ll help determine the ideal schedule based on your cooking volume and fire code requirements.

What is UL 300 and why does it matter?

UL 300 is a fire suppression standard required for most modern commercial kitchens. It ensures systems are designed to handle grease fires with wet chemical agents rather than outdated dry systems.
Installing a UL 300-compliant system is mandatory in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut — and is often required by insurance providers and the fire department.
